Strategies for Hiring a Therapist
This website is designed for parents and professionals to post “help wanted” or “services available” listings for ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapists and consultants.
For families in Maryland with a family member with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the professionals who work with children and adults with ASDs. The list was created to encourage exchange of information between parents and professionals working with children with autism, Autism Spectrum disorders, including Pervasive Development disorder, Sensory Integration Dysfunction and Aspergers Syndrome. Ideas, concerns, support, resources, difficulties, strategies are discussed. Together we can accomplish what alone we could not."
The Howard County (Maryland) Chapter of the Autism Society of America (HCC-ASA) works to advance awareness of persons with autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, to provide support for parents, information and referral, and to advocate for programs and services for the autistic population. You do not have to be a member of the Autism Society of America or a member of the Howard County Chapter to join this list. For more information, see our website at
Look under Jobs, then Education.
This is the only site listed that requires a fee. But it has been recommended to be an effective way to find instructors.

There is often a small fee associated with college newspapers. Please know these colleges might not be close to you but there are often students who live in your town that also attend these colleges.

  • Observe to see if the instructor approaches and attempts to interact with your child the very first time they meet.
  • Model how you play with your child and then allow the instructor to play.
  • Be very clear about shift expectations. If you need someone every Saturday be sure you have said that clearly.
  • Request that the instructor make a one year commitment to work with your child as you will be investing a significant amount to train that person.
  • If they are a college student from out of town. Ask them directly if they plan to stay in town for the summer.
